Prerequisites: This 2-day course is open to all CCRTs and CCRPs. Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants can enroll if they have taken Introduction to Canine Rehabilitation.

Course Description: The concepts and mechanisms of pain are introduced, and assessment techniques and treatment options are covered in depth. An evidence-based rationale for combining pain management with multiple treatment modalities for better outcomes is presented. Participants work together to create combined drug, dietary and manual treatment plans for various case scenarios.

  • Pharmacologic agents used in pain control
  • Therapeutic physical agents and their application in pain management

  • Concepts for managing acute/adaptive pain
  • Dietary, nutraceutical and pharmacologic approaches for managing chronic/maladaptive pain
  • Acupuncture
  • Psychological factors and adjuncts of pain management
  • Chronic pain complexities as they relate to physical interventions
  • Development of multimodal plans for case management
