“I was so pleased to see how much [the instructor] wanted the techs to learn. I feel that she has given us all the tools to work to our full potential."

The Canine Rehabilitation Assistant Certification is offered to Veterinary Technicians and Physical Therapist Assistants.
CCRA candidates learn:
- Canine anatomy and physiology
- Conditions and injuries commonly referred for rehabilitation
- Physical modalities: application, contraindications and equipment maintenance
- Therapeutic exercise
- Client education
The
CCRA curriculum includes three courses: Introduction
to Canine Rehabilitation, The
Canine Rehabilitation Assistant, and Canine
Sports Medicine.
All students take Introduction
to Canine Rehabilitation as the first class
in the series. Students
may take either Canine Sports Medicine or The
Canine Rehabilitation Assistant as the second
class, and then take
the remaining class as their third class.
An open-book, take-home final exam is given at the end of each class. Students
have 30 days to complete each exam, and collaboration with fellow classmates
is encouraged.
Once CCRA candidates
have taken the three courses required for certification
and successfully completed all exams, they participate
in a 40-hour internship* at a CRI-approved practice
through the CRI
Internship Program. We believe that an
internship provides “real
life” experience — an integral
part of the training of the best practitioners.
*Internships started
after January 1, 2012, will be forty hours — the same requirement as
for CCRTs.
