In April 2012, the Canine
Rehabilitation Institute traveled to Australia
to offer Veterinary
Orthotics and Prosthetics in Small Animal Patients,
one of our newest continuing education courses.
Veterinary Orthotics and Prosthetics
in Small Animal Patients (Australia)
Course Dates: The
weekend of April 13-15, 2012. The course was
held Friday 13th April 1-5pm, Saturday 14th
and Sunday 15th April 9am-5pm.

was hosted by OrthoPets Australia and held at
Southpaws Specialty Surgery for Animals, 3 Roper

Prerequisites: This
2.5-day course is open to Veterinarians and Qualified
Animal Physiotherapists.
Course Description:
Course participants learn how orthotics
and prosthetics can be used effectively in
the management of the canine patient. Principles
of biomechanics, kinematics and dynamics are
reviewed, in particular how they guide the
design and fitting of specific orthotics and
prosthetics. Wet labs provide students with
hands-on experience in thoracic-limb and pelvic-limb
cast molding. Patient evaluation and treatment
options for specific conditions and injuries
are discussed.
